Gayatri Mantra

It is said that the gayatri mantra is very powerful and it helps in moving away your troubles... but there are many of us who recite the Gayatri mantra without even knowing its meaning. People are not aware of what it means or conveys. I think, once we get to know the meaning it will not just be words that we utter but meaningful and powerful words.

Aum Bhoor Bhuwah Swaha,

Tat Savitur Varenyam

Bhargo Devasaya Dheemahi

Dhiyo Yo Naha Prachodayat

This mantra has been interpreted in different ways all leading to the same conclusion but in different words... these are two meanings that I found...

"May we attain that excellent glory of Savitar - the god:So may he stimulate our prayers."—The Hymns of the Rigveda (1896), Ralph T.H. Griffith

We meditate to the source of the physical, astral & heavenly spheres of existence, who is fit to be worshipped, who is the embodiment of knowledge and light, and who is the remover of all sins and ignorance. May that Supreme Divine Being enlighten our intellect and guide us on the right path.

I also found this wonderful site that talks about Gayatri Meditation and the benefits of the mantra... you can have a look at this link for further information - http://gayatrimantrameditation.googlepages.com/ScienceandBenefitsofGayatriMantra.jpg/ScienceandBenefitsofGayatriMantra-full.jpg

I hope we have learnt a little more about the most powerful mantra. There is much more to this other than just words.
